Nellie “Joann” Joan Leonard, 84, entered into the loving arms of Jesus during the afternoon hours of Monday, January 22, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Joann was born on June 30, 1939, in Bristol, VA to the late Charles Walker and Norma Frances Settle.Joann enjoyed the simplicity of life. She enjoyed being with her family, friends, writing poems, painting, and gardening. Joann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend; she will be greatly missed.In addition to her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Leonard, Jr.; two sisters, and five brothers.Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Connie Leonard and Sandy Harkleroad (Curtis); four grandchildren, Amy Burke (Kevin-deceased), Jeremy Harkleroad, Natasha Jonas (Judd), and Nathan Harkleroad (Stephanie); three great-grandchildren, Sadie, Grayson and Tyler; special friends, Brenda Gail Leonard and JoAnn Delprete; two sisters, Sue Morrell and Debbie Keller; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org; 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105).Memories and condolences may be shared at www.blevinscares.com. So sorry for your alls loss,but she is Heavens gain .She was the sweetest lady ,but l also loved her fiesty side too !!! But she was not ashamed to tell you she loved God! She will be missed by so many ,including me . Love and prayers for you all .
Jo Ann loved the Lord and in this world her family was the most important thing.
Connie,Sandy and Amy was with 24/7 this past year. She felt safe and loved with her family by her side. That is what all of us want at the end of our lives

The first time I met her, I was standing in her kitchen with Amy. I remember a radiating sweetness. I knew I was in the presence of a Godly woman and a person so very dear to my good friend, Amy. The lineage of strong faith driven women are seen in the faces of her children and grandchildren. What a privilege to have met her. She will be missed for many years to come. My heart and prayers go out to her family.
My sister, Joann Leonard was indeed a very special person. She was blessed by God with so much talent. She could write the most beautiful poems, could paint wonderful pictures, could make some of the best cakes I have ever eaten. But most important, she was a Child of God, who read her Bible everyday, prayed for family, friends and anyone who was ill. She loved cooking supper for her little family, for they lived close by, and always had them hold hands to thank God before eating. She really loved her girls, grandchildren and her siblings. She would always call to check on all of us to make sure we were alright and we enjoyed many conversations together. She loved to discuss passages in the Bible and what a certain scripture meant. Joanne was fun loving and loved to tell me jokes she had heard, probably from her girls. Today, there is a big ole hole in my heart for my sister who, after many months of fighting to regain her health, left this earth and went to be with Jesus. No more pain, no more sadness, only joy for her to be with Jesus and so many family members who are already in Heaven. Joann, my heart hurts with missing you, but one day, we will stroll over Heaven together, as that beautiful song tells us. I love you Sis, with all my heart!
